Self Employment Program
Assists eligible applicants who want
to start their own business, by providing financial compensation for a
period of up to 26 weeks while getting their business established.
The amount of funding received is unaffected by income received by the business.
Training
Applicants will receive 7 weeks of training (3 days per week). Topics covered include:
- Business planning
- Legal tips
- Effective speaking
- Personal budgeting
- Project management
- Accounting and bookkeeping
- Marketing
- Sales techniques
- Business etiquette
- Hiring smartly
- Website development
- Networking
- Employment standards
- Customer service
- Business image
To Be Eligible
Applicants must either be:
- Receiving EI benefits
- Be eligible for EI benefits
- Have established an EI benefit period during the last three years
- Have established a maternity / paternity benefit period during the last five years
- Other situations may also be eligible for this program, so please call Leigh for more information
How Much Will I Receive?
If you are currently receiving EI benefits, and your claim has at least
26 weeks remaining, you could receive your current EI rate for the
complete 26 week period of the program. If your EI claim has expired
or will expire during the 26 week period of the program, you will be
assessed based on need an may be eligible for alternative funding.
